Shooting the Moon

Photobucket

On July 15 this year there was a full moon, so I decided to borrow one of my dad's super telephoto lenses (huge, but awesome) and try my hand at shooting the moon. Too bad there were tons of clouds that night. I went out several times and could not see the moon at all. But, my persistence paid off because there were a few windows of time when it peeked through. However, I think the haze from the clouds was still there. I did have fun looking at the moon through the camera, though...it was almost like a telescope. I couldn't believe the amount of detail I could see with the camera. I used my tripod, shutter release cable, and manual focus to achieve the shot. The trickiest things were nailing the focus and exposure because the moon is really bright and is moving. But, this was a fun experiment and I will probably try again another time. (And hope for less clouds.)

Wow, I imagine that was hard, I have a hard time just keeping it in the telescope lense, let alone a camera lense!
