Inspiration
I have noticed that inspiration comes in spurts. I'll have a flurry of brain activity or life experiences that create ideas for several posts all at once. And then, I'll go through a dry spell where my life must be so boring or I'm so focused on other things that inspiration escapes me. This same thing happened when I would try to write articles for our college newspaper or when I would try to get a paper turned in for one of my classes (and as an English major - I was always writing some paper.) I would have days (or nights) where the words would just jump from my brain faster than I could type and I'd hammer out my paper or article in no time - and be quite pleased with it. Other times, I was searching, hoping and plain desperate for something with some semblance of ingenuity to write down and turn in. And I don't even think of writing poetry until the moment strikes (and I know what the moment looks like to me). So, the inspirational times are fun and the dry spells aren't.
i'd like to read some of your poetry.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's a big deal to go through creative dry spells. I have them all the time. I don't think there's anything wrong with not having a post every day, or even every week. Even God went through a "dry spell" from the sixth day of creation until he created the stone tablets for Moses.
ReplyDeleteOh--just remember, we are creatures in time. What does time show us but change? It's OK to be different from one time to another.
