Allergy-Tested

Casey got tested for allergies yesterday - finally. Let me just say that we have waited way too long to do this. We've had enough with over-the-counter allergy medicine and having to avoid being outside at certain times. And I say "we" because his allergies affect me too - not in the horrible way that he gets headaches, runny noses and watery eyes - but in the fact that we can't do things outside during the prettiest times of the year - Spring and Fall - which is a bummer. Enough is enough. So, as it turns out, he's not only allergic to everything but mold (yes, literally everything), but he was also off the charts (yes, literally off the charts) on each section of the test. Good grief!

I, on the other hand, am allergic to dust only. I took this same test when I was a kid and it determined that I have virtually no allergies. My puny allergy to dust amounts to sneezing a bit when I encounter it, which I assume just about every human being does. So now, at least, we have a plan of attack for Casey - shots. He will have to get specially mixed shots twice a week for 6 months and twice a month after that for several years! That's intense, but so are his allergies and I know (not through experience, thankfully) that he's ready to do something about them. My brother did this when he was a kid and it helped a lot, although it sure is time consuming! I hope he's not afraid of needles because he's about to get really familiar with them!

I am about to have that same test done. I, too, had almost no allergies growing up. When I hit 24, I was suddenly allergic to everything. Allegra won't touch them, and that's Rx!

With two sinus infections since November, I finally went back to the doctor -- and she said the two magic words, "Allergy test."

PS - I'm glad he finally had it done, and you have a plan of attack!

I did this about 10 years ago and had shots for 2 years and have had no problems nor have taken any allergy medicine since! Hope it goes as well for Casey!

I used to give allergy shots to a friend at church every Wednesday night. Rach, you might have to learn to give Casey the shots!!! What do you think about that?

I've had the test done before too and like you, I was only allergic to dust. But ever since I had a baby I have been suffering horribly this season! I think it may be time for another test.
