Jury Duty Notes

Yesterday I had to appear at my county courthouse for jury duty. About 300 people ended up in the central jury room by the time all was said and done. And I can't remember a time when I have been in a room with 250 people who were more irritated and disgruntled at one time. I say 250, because I'm sure there were a few (although maybe less than 50) who were not in such a bad mood. Most people were just so immature at having to show up and perform their civic duty. I'm not going to get up on a soap box about jury duty, nor do I rush to sign up for it or anything...but can't we all just be an adult about it? One woman practically threw a temper tantrum when she was called with the group that had to return today at 9am. She huffed and puffed and snatched her coat and purse and stormed out the door to collect her pass for today. Seriously? Hopefully none of those people will ever end up a defendant, but I bet if they do (or someone they care about does) they'll want to have a jury at their trial. And where do they think those people come from? Just some thoughts. And no, I didn't get picked and I didn't have to show up again today. I just went to work for the rest of the day!
