The Great Cheese Incident of '08

You may recall last year about this time I experienced The Great Hair Massacre of '07 (oh yes, let's revisit that, shall we?). It seems that I am destined to have some such occurence to begin each new year. This year it was queso dip (a lot of it) that spilled in the back floorboard of my new car. Last night, not long after we left our house for our Life Group meeting, Casey and I heard a terrible noise...the clanking of a lid. I had several food and beverage items in the back of my car but we both knew this was the queso dip, which by the way, did have its lid taped down - to no avail, obviously. Casey blindly reached his hand back to feel what was going on and then said to me, " need to pull over now."

Today, I am thanking my lucky stars (or Casey, since they were his idea) that we had the foresight to purchase those all-weather floor mats that we planned on taking advantage of when we had kids wreaking havok in the mess department. Little did we know that they would come in handy much earlier than that.

So, I pulled into the next gas station (which was mercifully close) and we opened the door. We both stood there for about 10 seconds completely aghast at the sheer amount of dip that had spilled. Then, we shot into action using an obscene amount of the compliementary blue towels that the gas station provides. As I said before, thank goodness that we had those hard plastic mats...with ridges. This contained 95% of the dip that spilled. Fortunately, only 5% made it to the carpet and plastic parts of my car. Did I mention that my car is new? Did I also mention that in my previous car (which I owned for 9 years) I never spilled so much as a drop of anything? Really, it's true.

Later that night, after making it to our Life Group really late, we returned home and finished the clean up job. This is an instance in which the perfectionism that Casey and I share comes in handy. Armed with q-tips, toothbrushes, scrub brushes and dish soap, we conquered the queso. All in all, we came out okay. Everything is pretty much like new. I can't wait for next year's incident.

I'm glad you were able to get it all cleaned up. And I guess we can never expect you guys to bring queso anywhere ever again, right?

Oh Rachel, I can relate to this all too well. I am so glad you had the good mats down. We were not so lucky! I was largely pregnant (with Emma)bringing a crock pot full of queso on my way to our last birthing class - which happened to be on Josh's birthday so we were going to do a celebration with our class that night! I was meeting Josh there, turned the corner and down went the queso everywhere on the front passenger mat. It was a HUGE mess... in our brand new car, at the time. Must be the pregnant combo with the new car! I couldn't believe the story when I read it... Glad yours cleaned up so well!
