Secret Sounds

I heard on the news last week that there is actually a high frequency sound that is audible only to people under the age of 25 (approximately). I had no knowledge of this, but it's true. They played the sound during the news segment and, sure enough, I couldn't hear it. But apparently, teenagers everywhere can. And the fun part is that some kids are using this adult-resistant sound as their ring tones so they can hear it during class but their teachers can't. Brilliant. I shouldn't champion rule-breaking deception like that, but I just think it's pretty funny.

I've heard quite a few teachers at the school here talk about that. Apparently, it's become somewhat of a nuisance in the classroom.

They still have to ANSWER the phone, and that is when my older than 25 year old husband takes it away! Kids think they can get away with anything! Too bad they can't! ;0)

Methinks it's time to find a microphone, a high pass filter, and a rectifier to turn it into a digital input, add to a klaxon, and then place said contraption on a desk. Bingo, bango, bongo, even if they don't answer it, EVERYONE will know that someone has a phone.

I remember learning about this sound back when I was 24. At the time, I could hear it, and it was quite an annoying sound. I need to find it again to see if I can still hear it.

I heard this a while back, but never thought it could be true! So weird!

It is true. Blake finds it hilarious that he can hear it and I can't. Apparently that makes me old.
