Jingles

A couple of weeks ago I wanted to have my carpets cleaned (so great, by the way) and I needed the phone number. I was bugging Casey to get off the computer so I could look it up - I never use the phone book anymore. Then he says to me, "wait...don't you know the number?" Then it dawned on me. Of course I know the number because I know the jingle. It's been engrained in my memory for years now - especially cemented on those days I had to stay home from school because I was sick and I heard the commercial at least a dozen times:

"Call 267.8433 because the next best thing to new is Dalworth Clean! *Ding*"

or, if I wanted to use the other company...

"Call 1-800-STEAMER. Stanley Steamer gets carpets cleaner!"

There are so many more jingles locked up in my memory. I don't even realize that I can sing every word until I catch myself doing it.

How funny. There are two numbers I know by heart b/c of jingles and Stanley Steamer is one of them. The other, also a carpet company, "800-588-2300 Empire!" Why is it the carpet companies have the most memorable jingles???

I once had a heated debate with someone who claimed it was "the next best thing to DO is Dalworth Clean" - SO relieved you know the real words! :)

We are getting our carpets cleaned tomorrow (YESSS!), and when I was calling around to places, one asked "So, how did you find out about us?" I told them that I've had their jingle & number memorized since I was a kid. The lady said "You wouldn't believe how many times we hear that!" Their advertising is really working!

Music is the best memory helper. I think I will teach each bible verse to Kimberlyn by song. She really loves songs - if she does not want to brush her teeth but I sing our teeth brushing song she opens right up, same for cleaning up. Kimber is already singing the Backyardigans theme song - it sounds like Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah Dah - but she has the beat correct. :)

Here's something I bet Stanley Steemer wasn't thinking about-
I saw their commercial today and looked up at it (b/c of reading your blog recently)- to discover that it is actually Steemer instead of Steamer. Music helps one remember, but it can't help us spell their business name.

Michael made fun of me so much for knowing every Dallas area jingle. He especially liked the Dalworth jingle. Becky, it has ALWAYS bugged me that it was spelled Steemer. So Steemer was the guy's name? How ironic!

That isn't irony. It's business.
Obviously the guy realized that "a" last name like "steemer" could be of benefit and due to the popularity of said last name his "steamer" business grew.
