Long-Lasting Stuff

It seems like this week I've noticed several things around my house that have lasted forever:

1. The halogen light bulbs in my kitchen. We put these things in when we moved into the house four and a half years ago and two of them just now needed changing. That's my kind of light bulb. Energy-saving and long-lasting. By the way...those sticks that are made for changing light bulbs on your ceiling are really an amazing invention. Way to go whoever thought of that.

2. The grey Victoria's Secret lounge pants I've had since 1999. Seriously. I remember ordering these super-comfortable pants from a sale catalogue my freshman year of college. And I wear them all the time. I am going to be so sad when they eventually wear too thin or rip or something like that. But for now, they're still going strong.

3. A particular roll of Christmas wrapping paper that I've had and used for three years now. I remember buying this roll at Hobby Lobby for $2.79 and I can't tell you how many presents it's wrapped over the last three Christmases. I think it was 50 yards or something like that. I just used the last of it the other day. And truthfully, as much as I appreciate that it was such an economical purchase, I sort of have a semi-obsession with wrapping paper and actually appreciate the need for a new roll.

4. My Morton's Salt cylinder. I have had this one salt cylinder for probably 5 years. Is that bad? Should I have thrown it out earlier? Due to my recent desire to do some baking, I just used the last teaspoon of the stuff and finally threw it away. I've had a spare in my pantry for a while just waiting for the original to run out. It finally gets to make its debut this week.

On the other hand, there are things that I wish lasted much longer than they do:

1. My favorite pair of black shoes. I know I could try to have them resoled and restored a little but I'm secretly afraid that this wouldn't even do the trick and that I'll be forced to throw them out. It's not that I don't want to buy a new pair, it's just that I've been looking for a suitable replacement for a couple of years now and have had no luck.

2. Weekends, holidays and vacations. Always too short. You know what I mean.

3. A batch of cookies. I hate eating the last one. I hate it even more when someone else eats the last one!

4. A good book. You know when you love a book you can't wait to read the ending but at the same time are actually dreading the end.

I love your list! I agree on the end of a good book comment and on the weekends/vacations :)

I also have a pair of VS lounge pants I purchased in 1999 and still wear today.
