Life in the Fast Lane

Ugh. Yesterday I got a speeding ticket. Only my second one {of any kind} ever...and the last one was 12 years ago. I'll spare you the details because they're not that interesting. Suffice it to say that I was zoned-out on a two-lane road in small-town west Texas on the way back from my parents' lake house. I never drive at the speed I was driving. But the one time I do, I get caught doing it. That's life. And moments earlier I was zoned-out and realized I was driving under the speed limit and told myself to speed up a little. Note to self: don't zone-out while driving. Either way, it's not a good idea.

While I am certainly not happy about paying the fine, that's not what bothers me the most. What really annoys me is the fact that I broke my record. Twelve years without a traffic ticket. After I pulled back on to the road, I told Casey, "I never get tickets." He smiled at me {as if he was actually amused} and said, "well, you do now." Thanks.

And on a related note, I received my new driver's licence in the mail today. I got to take my picture again. The last time I took my picture, I had just gotten married and changed my name. This time I had Ethan with me. I carried him in the baby Bjorn because sometimes it's just so much easier than the stroller. And it was. Until picture time and I had to make sure he wasn't showing in the picture. I had thought of this ahead of time and decided that I would un-hook one side of the carrier and tip him horizontally across my body. Hopefully, I thought, he won't show. And he didn't. But there is still evidence that he was there...

Feels like you throw your money out the window when you get a ticket, doesn't it? I HATE that!!!

I can't claim to be ticket free, although my last one was 15 years ago. But Steve has never recieved a ticket at the ripe ol' age of 56. He takes great pride in that :)
