Technology: Friend or Foe?

Today I had a fight with the office copier. And I won! It's a good thing I did because this is the busiest time of the month for me at work and yesterday my printer started leaving huge lines on pages, so I was pretty much without it from 9 am this morning until 1 pm this afternoon. It was like someone had cut my arm off - I couldn't get anything done. I'd sit down to do something and realize that it involved printing in some way.

And then, the copier claimed that there was a misfeed, when there was none to be found. Finally, my printer was fixed by the maintenance guy, who had to replace a part and like I said, I won the fight against the copier by convincing it that there was no misfed paper.

There is one cool thing about the copier that makes my life so much easier (besides the fact that it copies things for me) - I can put in two or three jobs at once and leave and it will remember the specifics and the completed stack will be waiting for me - copied, collated and stapled, if I so desire - whenever I make my way back to the copy room. This feature reminds me of the scene from Disney's The Sword in the Stone (one of my absolute favorites, by the way), where Merlin puts a spell on the dishes for Wart and they wash themselves. They just leave to run off and become squirrels for the afternoon and everything gets cleaned up. Cool.

Your post today made me laugh because it reminds me of one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies, Office Space. The character, Michael Bolton, is waiting for a printout from the community printer, but the paper jams. He reads the little screen on the printer & says, "PC Load Letter? What the $%*@ is that?" That scene always cracks me up because I have seen those very words several times... PC Load Letter!!

Glad you won your battle!

Couldn't help but think of Office Space, too. It's one of my favorites! Glad you won that battle.
