A Mother's Day Away

I spent my first "official" Mother's Day weekend at my parents' lake house with Casey, Ethan and our friends, Mary and Jason and their two kids, Charlie (2) and Max (1). I expected to have fun but I really had a refreshing weekend as well.

We swam in the incredible kiddie pool at the community pool area - for about 15 minutes before it started pouring on Friday evening - and still had fun. We ate a fabulous steak dinner after the kids were in bed and enjoyed lots of adult conversation on the patio - without bugs thanks to the screens. We had way too many cookies - but that didn't stop us from roasting marshmallows one night to make s'mores. We "swam" in the hot tub in the pool area the next day and enjoyed watching the kids play in the waterfall - and the husbands jump into the much cooler {downright cold} adult pool. We took a trip around the Ranch on the golf cart and saw deer and horses. We watched a movie, lounged around, and generally had a great time.

AND along with my gift, I got the sweetest card from Ethan on my first Mother's Day...daddy had helped him "sign" it with his hand print, which was just about the cutest thing ever.

The pictures don't do it justice! We were very nervous to "vacation" with another family with our two children...but were pleasantly surprised! It was like having 4 parents around. If one child was crying, the closest adult picked them up and dried their tears. If kids were hungry, the one closest to the food grabbed another serving. It is so nice to be so at ease with another family, that you really do trust them completely to help love on your kids. You two are such a blessing to us! Can't wait to make traditions as the kids get older and closer!

Awwww, that sounds like an amazing weekend. Mine was close with a birthday party and getting sick! :) The birthday party was great, the getting sick was not. Your pictures are amazing. I could just imagine what a refreshing weekend it was for you.
