Easter 2012

This year's Easter celebrations were great. Ethan is starting to understand about what we're really celebrating on this holiday and both boys loved the Easter egg hunt. Only one thing we'll do differently next year...have our hunt and other fun family stuff on Saturday. Just so we can take our time having fun. Then, on Sunday, church service can have it's own time and importance too.

The boys at the back door ready to be let loose to find eggs. See Ethan scanning the back yard for eggs? And Logan is about to bust loose. I only made them stand there for about 10 seconds to get this shot before they were out of the gate.

Ethan knew just what to do and had the best time finding the eggs in some fun spots around the yard.

We have two large purple eggs that I like to put fun surprises in each year (other than candy). My parents did that for my brother and I when we were kids, and it was always so much fun finding the big egg!

Of course, there's only two (one for each kid), so after Ethan found one of them (with Flick from A Bug's Life inside), we explained that he had to leave the other big egg for Logan to find (with Atta from A Bug's Life). We recently got that movie (free from Disney Rewards!) and the boys have loved it, so these characters were perfect for this year.

At first, Logan did not know what to do for the egg hunt, but he picked up on it pretty quickly. But, he wouldn't carry his basket! I think it may have been a little big for him. Plus, why carry it when you have a sweet daddy who will follow you around and carry it for you?!

After we made sure we found all the eggs, we all headed inside to see what was inside them. Ethan wasted no time cracking open his eggs.

I don't think Logan even knew there were things inside his eggs until we sat down and started opening them.

This year I did something that I will probably continue to do in future years....I didn't have a basket full of stuff for the boys. I only got them a few things (coloring books, the Bug's Life characters, and Dr. Seuss books), and I made them all part of the egg hunt. The Bug's Life characters were in those big eggs, which were so fun for them to find. Then, I wrote messages inside a couple of eggs that said they were supposed to trade that slip of paper for another surprise. Then I gave them their books. It was fun making it a surprise that they found in their eggs rather than just having it in the basket to begin with. Like I said, I think I'll do this going forward. And I'm glad we cut down on the amount of stuff we gave them this Easter...it was just right.
