Chihuly at the Dallas Arboretum

Logan and I spontaneously decided (well, I decided) to pop down to the Arboretum yesterday morning to take a few photos to commemorate his 21st month (to be posted soon) while Ethan was at preschool.

I expected to go in, take a few photos and get home in time to frost cupcakes for my mom's birthday party at our house last night before having to pick up Ethan. But, I didn't expect to be completely blown away by the Chihuly exhibit currently at the Arboretum. I knew it was there because I get all the newsletters, emails, etc. since we're members. But I just didn't think about it that much. 

It was fascinating and totally beautiful. The sculptures are integrated into the Arboretum's landscapes. They're like colorful, sparkling jewelry for the gardens. You absolutely have to make your way down to the Arboretum before the exhibit leaves (which is a while...November 5). If you're a fan of art, or really, even if you're not...just go. It's amazing. 

I found the sculptures completely enchanting, so naturally, I wanted to take photos. But I only had my 50mm lens with me because I was expecting to only photograph Logan.  I was kicking myself for "packing lightly" this time because I would have loved a wider angle.  Even so, I could not resist snapping a few quick shots with my 50mm, though they hardly do the art justice:

All the sculptures are beautiful, but I especially loved the ones in the water features. The reflections were gorgeous. I love how in some of them, the reflection is so clear that it's hard to tell where the glass ends and the water begins.

Those crazy sculptures in the photo on the right remind me of truffula trees.
