Logan turned 4 on August 9 (and had his party the same day) this year and wanted a construction party. I don't know if it's seeing construction trucks every single day in our neighborhood (lots of houses still being built), or if he would have asked for that anyway, but he was adamant.
Good thing we have lots of construction toys already. The rest of the party decor consisted of paper goods for the most part.
The birthday boy also requested chocolate cupcakes. I usually make vanilla too (for any children guests), but I didn't this time.
Logan lost his mind over this little mini-construction scene. (It's crushed chocolate Teddy Grahams).
I made those Reeses Pieces Peanut Butter Cookies (below) because they sounded good and because they had the same colors as the party. I was completely unprepared for how much I would LOVE them. One of my top three cookie recipes now.
Logan was also so excited to have his name on the water bottles for the party. He said, "Look, Ethan! It's MY water!"
For this big 4-year-old's party, we were planning to invite friends and family. However, August ended up being a very busy month for both of those groups. So, we ended up just doing a family party. I figured Logan would not mind and I was right. He was excited to be celebrated by us, his cousins, grandparents, and aunts and uncles.
While we were waiting for the party to start, the boys came up with a game of who could give the highest high fives.
When everyone arrived we dove right into cupcakes...because the boys had been hounding me all day about when they were going to get to eat them. I figured we might as well get that out of the way. Ethan was a sweet big brother at the party and really let Logan have his special day.
Logan made the cutest faces when we sang Happy Birthday to him.
When the song was over he wasted no time blowing out that candle and taking a big bite of cupcake.
And then, true to form, he played with the icing.
And ate it.
After everyone had been through the cake and snacks, Logan decided it was time to open presents.
He really loved every single one of his gifts. The one he's holding up there was from Ethan, who picked out those toys especially for his brother.
They (mostly) played nicely with all the gifts for the rest of the party!
