First Day of Preschool: 2012

Today was the first day of preschool for the boys this year. It's hard to believe summer is over and we are back to a routine. I love the routine, but I also love our unscheduled, lazy days in the summer. And this morning, I was reminded of what it takes to get two kids out the door on time because this is Logan's first year of preschool! How is he old enough to go to preschool? Before we left, he was so excited that he had his own backpack. Seriously, thrilled. (Even though he's not showing it in the photos.)

This year, Logan is in the 2 year old class and his teachers are Mrs. Talitha and Mrs. Krista.

Ethan has been talking about going back to preschool for weeks now. He was so ready. I love that he loves to be there learning with his friends.

This year, Ethan is in the 4 year old class (pre-K) and his teachers are Mrs. Jennifer and Mrs. Kim. (See Ethan's previous first days: 2 years, 3 years.)

And here's my two big boys together, ready for their first day of school. They were both so excited that they would be at school together. Logan has wanted to go to school with Ethan since last year, and Ethan is so proud that his brother is there with him now.

We dropped Logan off at his class first. He went right in and sat down in the teacher's chair! Mrs. Talitha gave him some play doh. Right before this, I missed getting a photo of Ethan and Logan hugging and kissing each other as Logan went into his classroom. So, so sweet.

Mrs. Talitha was one of Ethan's teachers when he was in the 2 year old class and he loved her, so we're glad that Logan can be in her class too.

I took this photo from outside the door. I said "goodbye" to Logan, but he did not mind that I was leaving. No tears at all. I was so glad.

Then we headed to the next hall to drop Ethan at his class. Daddy helped him find his basket and put his things away so he will know how to do it in the future.

Ethan found his spot at his table and sat down. He didn't know any of the kids at his table, although there are several kids in his class that he's been in class with the last two years. So he'll be with some of his friends, and maybe make some new ones.

Ethan is a kid that has to warm up to people. But, every year he has adored his teachers, so I expect the same very shortly after he gets to know Mrs. Jennifer (pictured) and Mrs. Kim.

Although neither of the boys cried, I cannot say the same for myself. I did save my tears for the car ride home. I was just not expecting to be emotional about it at all, but I should know better. This is Ethan's last first day of preschool. Next year he will be in Kindergarten, all day, every day. And this is Logan's first day of preschool. I left with no kids with me. And it was weird.

I had a really productive day, though. I ran errands, hardly stopping until it was time for the pick-up line. Casey went with me to pick up the boys too. He loves to see them after their first day and hear how it all went first-hand. I love that he will (and can) take a little bit of time away from work to do things like this with us.

The teachers escort the kids out to the cars. Mrs. Tina, Ethan's teacher from last year (and now the music teacher), is carrying Logan. Both kids had a great day. Ethan was talking non-stop about all the things they did. I barely had to ask any questions to get him to share details. He obviously loved it.

Logan did well too. They said he got "overwhelmed" at the very end while they were waiting to be escorted to the car, but he was not crying when they brought him out. He did cry in the car on the way home, though. I am pretty sure that was due to exhaustion. He pretty much lounged on the couch for the rest of the day since he didn't take a nap at school. I totally expected that. He is used to sleeping in a crib or pack n' play. Not on the ground with all his classmates. But, I think he may get used to it and eventually sleep. We'll see!

I'm so glad the boys both did so well their first day. I know they will enjoy all they will get to do and learn in preschool this year.

I was just going to ask if Logan slept. I feel confident he will get used to it. Kimberlyn did when she was used to cribs---if that helps. Very sweet pictures. Love hat Casey could go. Jake in the education world can't. Oh well!! Love you all bunches.
